Biomimicry Design
Using advanced 3D-printing, Living Seawalls™ mimic natural coastal features like mangrove roots (4-8″ deep). Designs replicate reef and shoreline structures, creating habitats with voids, ledges, and overhangs that serve as refuge, feeding, and breeding grounds for diverse marine life. (see the results).
Wave Dissipation
Designed to reduce shoreline erosion and dissipate wave energy, Living Seawalls™ provide superior coastal protection against storms and storm surges. Traditional seawall panels reflect nearly 100% of wave energy. Living Seawall panels reduce reflected wave energy by approximately 45%, minimizing scour and overtopping (see the results).
Custom Dimensions
Structural Performance
The University of Miami’s Structures and Materials Laboratory conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the load capacity, failure mechanisms, and material performance of Kind Designs’ 3D-printed seawall panels compared to traditional precast concrete designs. The results confirmed that Kind Designs’ 3D concrete-printed panels meet all structural performance standards for conventional seawall applications.

Reinventing South Florida Seawalls
“It’s faster, less expensive and green – its a win, win, win,” Murphy said. “If we’re going to be serious about climate change, which is something I’m passionate about, the construction industry is a big piece of that that flies under the radar.”

Bringing Life to Vinyl Seawalls
“This project by itself will be a benefit to this stretch of the shoreline, but what we also need is more people to look at their backyards, their shorelines and say ‘hey, I want to be part of the solution..”

The New Standard for Fort Lauderdale Seawalls
“They’re meant to replicate mangrove roots to promote growth, to create habitats for juvenile tropical fish, and to help with storm surge…”

Bringing Life to the Bay
“For years, we used gray concrete to push the bay back, and this is a reversal in that. We’re using modern technology, the Living Seawall™ to invite the ecosystem back to Miami Shores.”
