Kind Designs teamed up with Billion Oyster Project to co-design a new generation of oyster reefs, tailoring the geometry to maximize habitat surface area while staying lightweight and easy to deploy. By customizing the reef around Billion Oyster Project’s restoration goals, this Governor’s Island installation creates more space for oysters and marine life per unit, accelerating progress toward restoring 1 billion oysters to New York Harbor and cleaning the city’s waterways.
